Y’all.
I know I complain about this every year, but does anyone else think summer is getting hotter, the older we get?
Is this.. .is this hot flashes?
Because if so, somebody take me off the list. I’m dying over here.
I’ve been working hard this year to avoid the ‘treat yoself’ trap, so I can’t even drown my sorrows in a beautifully crafted Starbucks beverage, y’all.
And my sweet tooth doesn’t quit, rain, shine, heat, or hail, so this is a problem.
I’ve been testing out some healthier sweet treats in my kitchen lately to (hopefully) stay on track, though, and tbh, there’s nothing I’d rather talk about on a sticky Monday morning than chocolate.
Let’s explore, shall we?
I use a LOT of coconut. Coconut water, milk, flour, shredded coconut – I love it all. But I actually enjoy the flavor of coconut, while my family takes a more… mixed approach.
These are amazing and the coconut isn’t overpowering. Total thumbs up!
Ah. Well. As I said. Coconut is kind of my thing. Plus it’s not only super-trendy right now due to the gluten-free movement, it’s actually good for you. EV sees ‘cookie’ and I don’t mention the coconut part, so these never last at our house.
Perfect with a glass of non-dairy milk, if I do say so myself.
Dates are another iffy item for my picky little fam bam. I LOVE THEM. Like, all the heart eyes, consider them an actual treat, love love love them.
I’ve been eating dates and almond butter for years, so this basic concept wasn’t anything new to me. But melting some Lily’s chocolate chips and drizzling that over the top?
Y’all. This is some next level kind of foodie joy.
I’m not gonna lie, when I first started trawling Pinterest for healthier dessert recipes, this picture is what captivated me.
Gooey chocolate, warm, rich cookie?
You don’t have to tell me twice.
Sigh.
Twix bars.
There’s something about that guilty pleasure combination of chocolate, cookie, and caramel that will most definitely require a good tooth brushing afterwards.
This recipe is kind of like a Twix bar, but I honestly like them even better. Which is great, obviously, since they’re a healthier option. But I also like that they end up being bigger than a Twix bar when I cut them into squares, so obviously my opinions aren’t entirely based on rational thought.
What about y’all? Anyone else out there trying desperately to control that sweet tooth with some amazing healthy dessert options?
Have a wonderful week, friends!
