Fashion Fridaaaaaay!

Hey, y’all!

Whew. Has this been a WEEK, or has it been a week?

Maybe y’all had a pretty low-key time of it, but I’m over here feeling like I’ve been run over, tbh, and I couldn’t be more ready for a weekend off.

Too bad I’m working tomorrow, right?

So I had a brilliant idea earlier. That brilliant idea was to make a fashion Friday ‘April Fool’s’ post about some ridiculous item of clothing that I would never actually wear in real life.

Too bad I had that really brilliant idea a week too late, because it would have been epic.

But that idea did inspire today’s fashion focus, y’all, I’m not gonna lie. And it’s almost entirely because I couldn’t get it out of my head once I thought of it.

Today, I’m putting the spotlight on….

Bucket hats.

Cue all the side eye, right?

If you’ve been a casual observer of fashion over the last year or two, you’ve seen the resurgence of the ubiquitous bucket hat.

I mean, it never actually disappeared from family BBQs (side eye at ol’ Uncle Lester), but it’s back in actual fashion, y’all.

If you’ve seen a bucket hat, it’s probably been atop the head of a bouncy young fashionista, paired with an outfit something like this:

Or maybe even this:

But tbh, neither of those looks say ‘I’m old enough to still be cool without following every trend’ and that’s kind of the vibe I’m going for, you know?

Obviously, this means it’s time for some research, because I’m not sold on the bucket hat.

This look isn’t terrible. I mean, I’m not a crop-top kind of mama, but I can see this working with a French-tucked t-shirt and wide-legged cotton pants.

I’m still feeling ‘meh’ about it, though.

This look screams ‘I’m super fashionable and far too young to remember when these pieces were cool the first time’. In theory, a band tee and mom jeans aren’t bad. I actually own both, but I style them way, way differently.

I honestly feel like the only ones pulling this off are senior-aged tourists and twee young things way too young to fully appreciate how out-of-style the bucket hat was.

And the tourists just don’t even care. Mad props to them, y’all.

Okay, so we haven’t discussed the actual print of the bucket hat. Here’s a couple of floral ones, paired with breezy summer dresses that I would 100% wear, myself.

I just… I don’t know. I can’t get past that bucket hat completely obscuring the hair and face and taking those frilly dresses in a different direction.

Ok, y’all. It’s not an April Fool’s question (mostly because I forgot on April Fool’s) but now I really want to know. Are we doing bucket hats?

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!
